You can study at either of our Scottish centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Edinburgh currently only offers the HND Music course.

Glasgow currently offers the maximum range from HND, BA(hons) and M.Mus.

All of our full-time courses are delivered in centre and in person.

We understand the need for everyone to request their timetable early so they can work around scheduled holidays, work schedules or other commitments however, due to the complexities within the timetables (different groups and instrument classes) it can be easy to misread or sometimes understand.

During induction, we can simply explain the process once to the whole class, and any questions regarding the timetable can be answered in person by your Course Coordinator. This is inline with many other colleges and universities.

If you have any other questions regarding your application, it’s status or the audition process we are happy to answer any of your calls via email or by direct call to the local centre.

Unfortunately, we do not have Tier 4 visa access and therefore are unable to accept students both from the international stage and within the EU.

If you would still like to study with the Academy of Music and Sound, we recommend on learning more about our Online Delivery through or partner company AMS Online.

As a private business, we are unable to request the same level of funding grants/support as other major colleges and universities. This decision is held at a governmental level and written into Scottish Law.

The top-up fee enables us to deliver and continue the level of music tuition that we believe should be standard practice, we focus on small groups offering constructive feedback plus three hour instrument specific classes, weekly performances and termly shows!

You can apply for all options provided by SAAS which include tuition fees, bursaries, student loans, and DSA (Disability Student Allowance) if you are eligible.

SAAS applications typically open up during March/April each year for the next academic season. If you have any direct financial requests or queries it’s always best to contact SAAS first.

We are an Employee-Owned company as of March 2021 which means all of the decisions surrounding curriculum and overall direction are discussed and implemented by us!

As musicians that have formerly engaged with other music courses growing up, we noticed the increasing need for more contact time practically on instruments (we offer 3 hours weekly) and with smaller class sizes so all of your questions are answered and your technical proficiency continues to develop.

We could go on and on, however, if you’d like to see what we’re really like we always recommend popping into the centre, speaking to a member of our team, or attending one of our Open Events.

Mental health and well-being are extremely important for us and that includes looking after members of our own team. We will all encounter difficult stages in life and we have an open door policy, you are welcome to speak to any member of staff and have safe spaces in the centre if you are feeling overwhelmed.

This year we are proud to also announce that each centre has employed a qualified Occupational Therapist that students and staff can book for one-to-one sessions.

We love visitors, if you’re looking to pop up all we would request is contacting a local centre to book in a time and discuss options with a relevant member of the team.

We always have opportunities that we actively engage our student community. Each year is never the same however some of the most common are:

• Termly masterclasses
• Work experience (festivals, award shows, performing)
• Student-driven workshops (charitable organizations, make music day)
• Working at Open Events and Careers
• Representing AMS at an Event or Showcase

Each year brings something new!

Short answer is ‘absolutely’.

The long answer is that when making your application you will have to choose the main instrument you’ll be looking to develop throughout your duration with AMS. This is so you can attend that respective instrument-specific class.

You will have the opportunity to join other bands and perform on a different instrument through discussions with your Course Coordinator, we are always open to various creative and artistic approaches.
