Hip Hop & Rap Audition

Our auditions give us the opportunity to find out where you are in terms of your ability, knowledge and technique. They also give us the opportunity to find out where you want to be, and for us to give guidance on how we may be able to help you get there.

What will I do at my audition?

You will be asked to play the assessor a recording of your music.

You will be asked to perform some of your music, appropriate to the from that the music takes.

You may perform over a backing track if you wish or with a live accompanist of your choosing if that is more suitable. It is best if you play your part to either a backing track or with live musicians, and not to simply perform your part over a complete recording that already includes your part.

Please ensure that your piece is at least 1.5 minutes long and no more than 3 minutes long.

When you are playing your piece:

  • If you make any mistakes, play on! Try not to stop and repeat phrases.
  • Focus on the clarity of your delivery, not on being ‘flash’.
