This flexible top-up year is designed to follow on from our Foundation Degree in Music & Sound..
Equivalent to the 3rd year of a degree, this flexible top-up is designed to follow on from our Level 4 and 5 DipHE Music & Sound, but also suits any applicants who have studied a music related HND, Foundation Degree or indeed those with recognised industry experience backed up with qualifications. Validated by the University of West London, the course has been developed to mirror the modern music industry, allowing students to learn the skills to become independent, multi-skilled music practitioners, fluent with various forms of multi-media. A wide range of optional modules make this BA top up highly adaptable to each student's existing strengths.The award on completion is a full, 360 credit BA Hons Music & Sound.
For Industry Professionals:
We offer the opportunity to fast-track students with industry experience (5+ years) onto the BA (Hons) Top Up. We look at your previous experience in music, and if it is accepted you can be 'fast tracked' directly onto the BA Top Up. This means you will be awarded with a full BA Hons Music & Sound after your one year study with us. Your 'Fast Track' application will be handled after you have applied for the BA Top Up through the apply link on this website.

Core Modules & Optional Modules
The BA Top Up includes two core modules, and three optional modules.Before your course starts you will be asked to choose three optional modules, details of which are below.
Core Modules
Engage in a large-scale project in an area of your choice: performance, songwriting, composition, dissertation, music production, event management or multi-media. The Level 6 Project is a double module, and spans both semesters of the BA Hons Top Up.
Develop a viable music industry product with all accompanying business research and requirements (business plan, website etc). This will be your calling card when you graduate.
Optional Modules
Study the academic theories behind matching music and sound with media and put them into practice when creating your own soundtrack to a given film clip.
This module focuses on the creative process of songwriting, with a strong emphasis on idea generation. You will explore how to develop musical concepts, lyrical fragments and stylistic approaches that reflect your artistic voice.
This module focuses on preparing and presenting a well honed original music performance alongside the creation of a professional artist package. You will rehearse material for a public showcase and develop promotional assets such as an electronic press kit.
Create your own portfolio of professional productions while developing a keen understanding of the techniques and working practices of leading producers.
This module explores storytelling through audio formats such as podcasting and audiobooks. You will learn how to use voice, sound and music, to create engaging narrative content while also exploring the wide range of roles within this growing part of the industry.
This module is largely self-directed: with the option of specialising in music or artists management, retail management or crowd funding.
There is a large market for music that film and TV production companies can take ‘off the shelf’ for genres such as sport, gameshows, wildlife etc. In this module, you will create your own portfolio of original music suitable for submitting to a publisher that covers a wide range of moods, styles and uses.
This module introduces you to the process of securing funding for creative projects. You will explore how to research funding opportunities, develop a strong proposal and create a working prototype that demonstrates your idea.
